Hypnotherapy in Manchester (UK)

I run a successful clinical hypnotherapy practice in the centre of Manchester (UK). This means that I see somewhere between 15 – 20 clients each week, helping them to deal with a wide array of issues, such as low self-esteem, low self-confidence, anxiety disorders, weight loss, blushing, sports performance, stopping smoking and more.

How it works

When a person contacts me with an enquiry, usually through my UK website, typically they are writing to see if I can help because they have tried other things with no success. If their issue is something that responds well to hypnosis and NLP, I’ll invite that person into my private office in Manchester to hold a free-of-charge consultation. This is an opportunity to discuss whatever problems there are, and for me to explain precisely how hypnosis and NLP works.

I receive enquiries from all over the UK, and it is not unusual for people to travel to Manchester for an appointment. The consultation itself is very informal and relaxed. I understand that people are naturally apprehensive to begin with. However, I can honestly say that people invariably find the experience much easier than they initially imagined.

It is my job to help people relax, after all!

If, having talked matters through, I feel I can help, usually we’ll go ahead and book a first appointment for the following week. Sometimes people prefer to go away and have a think about it, which is fine too.

The First Session

As it is only natural to be apprehensive about the unknown, even though we’ve met once already, often a person will feel a bit nervous about that first session. However, as with the consultation, within 5 minutes most people are incredibly relaxed and we’re talking openly about how the session(s) will unfold.

The first part of the first session usually involves talking informally about the various issues to work out precisely what the problem is. This all takes place in my Manchester office and the first session normally lasts for around 90 minutes.

Hypnotherapy

Once finished with the questions and answers, we move onto an introduction to hypnosis and hypnotherapy. Hypnosis, like everything, becomes easier with practice, so I like to introduce it into the first session to demonstrate just how enjoyable and experience it is.

People sometimes worry about getting stuck in hypnosis, or giving away all their secrets, but these things just cannot happen (it would be like getting stuck in a good book)…

So -using relaxation and other techniques, I’ll gently guide a person into a state of hypnosis and introduce some new ways of thinking or doing that will guide a person towards their goals. As hypnosis feels nice and relaxing, it is a good way to end the session and ease away any tensions…

Once the hypnotherapy has been completed, the client (who by this time feels very relaxed and refreshed) is free to then get on with their life. There are no side effects whatsoever, other than feeling very relaxed for the rest of the day.

We’ll leave it a week or so, and then move onto:

Subsequent Sessions

After the first session, through the various questions I have asked, I will have built up a good understanding of the client’s presenting problem. From there I’ll deliver an array of different therapeutic interventions, either based in NLP, or psycho-dynamic techniques, or hypnotic suggestion, or (as is often the case) all three.

Each session is focused on achieving a particular goal. I work thoroughly and systematically through each aspect of a person’s presenting problem(s) in order to bring about change from the inside. The number of sessions required for each person depends on both the nature of the problem, and the person who has the problem! However, as a general rule:

- Habit elimination e.g. smoking, nail biting, hair pulling: 1 to 3 sessions. (Sometimes, where the problem is either deeply embedded, or is connected to unresolved emotions from the past, these type of habits can take up to 5 or 6 sessions to remove).
- Inner confidence, improved self-esteem: 4 or 5 sessions.
- Weight Loss through changing eating patterns: 4 or 5 sessions.
- Ending anxiety disorders: 4 or 5 sessions.
- Patterns of behaviour such as depression, self-harming, bulimia: 5 to 10 sessions (I usually discount my fee for such problems).
- Phobias: anywhere between 1 and 5 sessions! (Phobias can be really easy to remove, or sometimes quite stubborn!)
- Pain relief: Around 2 – 3 sessions.

Of course, these are just general guidelines. Sometimes it can take only one or two sessions to help a person change, whereas sometimes it can take anywhere up to 10 sessions if there is a long and difficult past to contend with. On average however, most problems are addressed successfully within 5 sessions.

So I hope that answers any questions you might have about my hypnotherapy in Manchester service, and if you get any questions you can always drop me an email.
